ED requests prisons dept. to probe audio ‘leak’


The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has requested the Prisons and Correctional Services to analyze the “intentional disclosure” to the media of a voice-recording purportedly associated to gold-smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh.

The broadly circulated voice clipping had triggered an issue with the narrator implying that the “investigators” had “coerced” her into giving proof towards Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The ED had identified that the narrator didn’t identify any company.

However, the ED perceived that the looks of the voice clipping heralded by digital captions on an internet site with a marked political slant pointed to a plot to discredit its investigations. Sources stated the ED had requested the prisons division to share its findings with the company. The division has, in flip, sought the assistance of the state police to resolve the matter.

Tight surveillance

A preliminary investigation by the prisons division prompt that the voice may belong to Swapna. However, officers stated it was unlikely that her voice was recorded in jail. Swapna had served time within the sub-jail in Kakkanad following her arrest by the National Investigation Agency from Bengaluru in August. Currently, the suspect is a COFEPOSA (Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act) detainee on the Attakulangara Women’s Prison right here.

Officials stated Swapna was underneath tight watch on the jail. She is allowed to satisfy shut family members as soon as every week on Wednesday. Applications to satisfy Swapna are despatched to the Customs division for vetting. So far, the jail division has allowed solely her mom, youngsters, and husband to satisfy her. Customs and jail officers are invariably current on the conferences.
